For Our Fallen King finished by Chris-Hanson
For Our Fallen King finished
This is the image i did for the book anthology 1001 Knights which is up on kickstarter atm. Its an awesome project involving a lot of very talented individuals. The image itself depicts the battle of Minas Tirith and the confrontation between Eowyn and the Witch King.

Artist Statement

My name is Christopher Hanson. I was Born in 1983 I on the north shores of Long Island and have pursued art here all my life. In 2006 I graduated with honors from the University of Hartford’s School of fine art with a dual discipline in drawing and painting. Although I would consider myself a painter first and foremost, my passion for art has manifested itself in many mediums be they drawing, painting, woodwork, ceramic, film, photography and percussion. My work is heavily influenced and nuanced by the old master works of the Renaissance and Baroque eras, as well as many of my contemporaries today. With a figurative foot firmly planted between classic and contemporary, I strive to balance the modern concepts of realism; by bridging the worlds of modern day and historical figurative and narrative arts. My biggest challenge as a painter is to keep old world aesthetics alive while simultaneously keeping my subjects fresh, modern and relatable to an ever advancing society. My use of composition, color, light, drama and mood are all integral components to this idea, as well as my body of work as a whole.

I love your work! Did you just start altering MTG? They look pretty good. A few things you should know if you intend to start doing it more often.

1. The card name, mana cost, and spell type must remain visible. Also, some judges will not allow alters that drastically change the graphic (apparently because people who dont read english are unable to distinguish the card without asking)
2. To be tournament legal the thickness of the card cannot be obviously different from an unaltered card. I recommend using Golden fluid acrylics. They are a tad expensive but the effect is WELL worth it. Only my mana leak and lingering souls used that paint so far (been super busy), but they are worth every penny!

Please keep up the good work!
